The International Whisky Competition Committee has awarded Kavalan Distillery's Kavalan Solist Fino Sherry Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky the title of Whisky of the Year at its 16th edition in Louisville, Kentucky. With a remarkable score of 97.04 points, this Taiwanese whisky not only claimed the top prize but also made history as the first non-Scottish distillery to receive this honor, underscoring the diversity and high quality of whisky production worldwide.
Mr. Yu-Ting Lee, Chairman of King Car Kavalan, shared his pride in this achievement, emphasizing how it reinforces Taiwan's important position in the whisky industry. Max A. Solano, the competition's director, commended the whisky for its outstanding balance and complexity, qualities that set it apart from other entries.
Adam Edmonsond, Master of Whisky, provided tasting notes that highlight the Solist Fino Sherry's rich and intricate profile, featuring tropical fruits, nuts, and sherry influences, with a long, pleasing finish. The competition also recognized other distinguished whiskies, such as Dewar's Double Double 21 Years Old as Best Blended Scotch Whisky and A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength as Best American Whiskey.
