UGI Utilities has announced the commencement of a system upgrade project in Hazleton, starting June 24, focusing on replacing a gas main on Berner Avenue between South Cedar Street and South Poplar Street. This project is part of UGI's continuous efforts to ensure the safety and reliability of its natural gas service. Construction will occur from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, leading to temporary road closures and parking restrictions in the area. Although access for residents and businesses within the construction zone will be maintained, some natural gas service interruptions are expected. UGI will require property access to inspect and relight equipment during the service restoration phase.
The underground work is projected to finish by mid-July, with final paving and restoration to follow, though the timeline may vary due to weather and working conditions. Additionally, this upgrade provides an opportunity for properties along the route to consider converting to natural gas, promoted by UGI as a cleaner and more efficient energy option. UGI Utilities, Inc., serving over 760,000 customers, underscores its dedication to community energy needs through such infrastructure improvements and service enhancements.
