Sandhills Classical Christian School in Pinehurst is set to introduce a groundbreaking safety technology, Active Defender's wearable panic buttons, at the School Leadership Safety Summit on June 16. This initiative represents the first regional deployment of such a system, developed by Jim Boyte, a retired Department of Defense software engineer, aiming to enhance emergency response in educational settings.
The Active Defender platform, already in use at several schools across North and South Carolina, is designed to provide instant communication with emergency services, ensuring swift action during threats. Its adoption comes as schools nationwide are actively seeking solutions to improve campus safety, with the technology's real-time information sharing capability standing out as a critical feature.
Recognized with an NC IDEA SEED Grant, Active Defender's development by a team of former military and security professionals underscores its potential to significantly impact school safety. The upcoming summit will feature a live demonstration of the system, with keynote speakers Rob DePriest and Bobby Brasher highlighting the importance of real-time communication in creating safer learning environments.
