Snap Inc. has introduced its next-generation augmented reality glasses, Specs, at the Augmented World Expo 2025, showcasing a major advancement in AR technology with ultra-lightweight, standalone wearable computers that overlay digital content onto the real world through see-through lenses. The glasses, powered by on-device AI, are expected to launch for consumers in 2026, signaling Snap Inc.'s continued leadership in the AR space.
In addition to the hardware reveal, Snap Inc. announced substantial upgrades to Snap OS, including deep integrations with OpenAI and Google’s Gemini, a depth-module API for 3D spatial anchoring, and automated speech recognition supporting over 40 languages. These enhancements aim to provide developers with new tools like a Fleet Management app, Guided Mode, and Guided Navigation, facilitating shared AR experiences, productivity improvements, and direct streaming capabilities through the glasses.
The announcement has had a positive effect on Snap Inc.'s stock, with shares experiencing a 2.12% increase, trading at $8.67. This development reflects the company's significant investment in AR hardware and software, supported by a global network of over 400,000 developers who have created more than 4 million AR Lenses, further establishing Snap Inc. as a pioneer in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and immersive computing.
