Ron Sturgeon, founder of the Haltom United Business Alliance (HUBA), has raised concerns over Haltom City's outdated parking regulations, which are reportedly preventing small businesses from opening and contributing to higher commercial vacancy rates in key areas. Despite the potential for economic revitalization, the city's leadership has shown little interest in addressing these challenges, according to Sturgeon.
This issue stands in contrast to other Texas cities like Dallas, which has removed parking requirements to encourage economic development and promote walkable neighborhoods. HUBA has offered no-cost solutions to Haltom City over the past three years, but these proposals have been overlooked, forcing small businesses to deal with the restrictive regulations independently.
Sturgeon emphasizes that without prompt action to reform these regulations, Haltom City faces the risk of further economic downturn, increased crime rates, and a greater tax burden on its residents. The push for change is not merely about parking but about securing the city's economic future by creating a more inviting environment for small businesses.
