SolarBank Corporation has unveiled plans for a 6.9 megawatt (MW) community solar project in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, as part of Canada's inaugural Community Solar Program. This initiative is poised to generate sufficient clean energy to power around 900 homes, aligning with Nova Scotia's objectives of reaching 80% renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2035.
The project, owned by AI Renewable Fund, represents one of the three contracts awarded under the Community Solar Program. SolarBank will serve as both developer and builder, applying its expertise from similar projects in the United States to ensure the project's success in Canada. With construction set to begin in Spring 2026 and an estimated completion by Summer 2026, the total development cost is projected at $13.9 million.
This endeavor not only reflects SolarBank's dedication to renewable energy but also emphasizes the critical role of community solar programs in promoting environmental sustainability. By supplying clean energy to hundreds of households, the project advances efforts to combat climate change and supports the transition to a more sustainable economy. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving renewable energy targets and encouraging sustainable development.
