UGI Utilities is embarking on a significant infrastructure upgrade project in Hazleton, aimed at enhancing the reliability and safety of utility services while offering some properties the chance to convert to natural gas systems. The project, starting on Monday, June 2, will concentrate on replacing gas mains along South Bennett Court between East Elm and East Beech Streets, and East Birch Street between South Fulton Court and South Poplar Street. Expected to last until late June, the construction will take place from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
The initiative is likely to cause considerable disruptions for residents and commuters, including road closures, detours, and traffic delays. Parking will be restricted on the affected streets, and property owners may experience temporary interruptions to their natural gas service. UGI Utilities has announced that it will need access to properties to inspect and relight equipment after completing the underground work. The final steps of road paving and site restoration will be scheduled later, depending on weather and working conditions.
This project underscores UGI Utilities' dedication to maintaining and improving the utility infrastructure for its customers. For some homes and businesses, the upgrade presents an opportunity to switch to natural gas, potentially offering benefits such as enhanced energy efficiency and more service options.
