The PACE Organization of Rhode Island (PACE-RI) has taken a monumental step in elder care technology by implementing CareHub, an electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management system developed by IntusCare. This system is specifically designed for value-based elder care models, setting a new standard for PACE organizations across the country. The deployment of CareHub by PACE-RI underscores the organization's commitment to leveraging technology to improve the quality and efficiency of care for the elderly.
IntusCare's approach to implementing CareHub was thorough and collaborative, ensuring a smooth transition for PACE-RI. The process included in-person workflow discovery sessions, operational alignment meetings, and an extensive training bootcamp spanning four days across multiple PACE-RI centers. This meticulous preparation highlights the importance of integrating technology that aligns with the unique workflows and needs of elder care providers.
Joan Kwiatkowski, Chief Executive Officer of PACE-RI, emphasized that CareHub was developed with the specific needs of PACE programs in mind. This tailored approach is expected to bring about significant operational improvements, such as better coordination among interdisciplinary teams, reduced time spent on documentation, and enhanced visibility across both clinical and administrative processes. Liz Boucher, Chief of Organizational Performance at PACE-RI, pointed out the system's potential to streamline operations and improve the quality of care for participants.
The development of CareHub was a collaborative effort, with PACE-RI playing a key role through its participation in the CareHub Product Steering Committee. This partnership allowed for direct input from frontline staff and leadership into the system's features, including tools for interdisciplinary tasking, care planning, and compliance support. Robbie Felton, CEO of IntusCare, described the implementation as the beginning of a new era in how technology supports participant care, highlighting the transformative potential of CareHub for elder care models.
PACE programs, serving 80,000 participants across 33 states, are a critical component of the healthcare system for nursing home-eligible adults who wish to remain in their communities. PACE-RI's implementation of CareHub not only benefits its participants in Rhode Island but also serves as a model for other PACE organizations nationwide.
