The Virginia Women in Wine Trail is poised to redefine the wine tourism experience in Virginia by showcasing the indispensable contributions of women to the state's wine culture. Scheduled from March 14 to March 31, 2025, this trail will guide visitors through 50 wineries, cideries, and meaderies, offering a rare glimpse into the female influence in winemaking and viticulture. Organized by the Virginia Women in Wine professional organization, the trail spans eight regions, including Northern Virginia, Central Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley, among others.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, such as Female Favorites Flights, vineyard tours, and blending workshops, all designed to highlight the creativity and expertise of women in the industry. A key objective of the trail is to shed light on the gender gap in winemaking, as underscored by the organization's report, Closing the Gender Gap in Winemaking, which reveals that women hold just 17% of head winemaker positions in Virginia.
The trail will conclude with the VWW Trailblazer Bash at Bluemont Vineyards on March 29, a grand celebration of Virginia's wine culture. The event will honor three women with the 2025 Trailblazer Awards, recognizing their significant contributions to the industry. Through fostering networking and supporting women-led businesses, the Virginia Women in Wine Trail seeks to not only enhance the state's wine industry but also to ignite conversations about gender equity and professional growth in the field.
