The Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) is undergoing a significant strategic shift by embracing an Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) model, aimed at drawing high-value foreign direct investment to Bermuda. This move is expected to yield substantial economic benefits, including job creation and enhanced global investment appeal. Kendaree Burgess, the newly appointed Managing Director, brings over 25 years of executive experience to lead this transformation, focusing on sectors with the potential to diversify Bermuda's economy.
Since joining the BDA in March 2023 as Chief Operating Officer, Burgess has played a pivotal role in refining the agency's operations and guiding its transition towards an IPA framework that emphasizes measurable outcomes. The strategy involves targeted market engagement and forging strategic partnerships, with key leadership roles being filled to support this vision. David Parker and Simone Gibbons have been appointed as Head of Business Development and Head of Marketing, Communications & Events, respectively, while Olivia Joell assumes the newly created position of Stakeholder Relationship Manager to enhance local industry engagement.
The IPA model is designed to prioritize investments that offer tangible opportunities for Bermuda's residents and align with the government's economic development goals. Susan Pateras, a BDA Board member, underscores the importance of collaboration with government and local stakeholders in achieving these objectives. The agency's refined focus on data-driven strategies aims to capitalize on Bermuda's unique advantages, fostering an environment ripe for business growth and long-term economic prosperity.
