The DFW Car & Toy Museum has recently introduced a rare 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Six-Door Pullman Limousine to its collection, a vehicle that stands as a testament to mid-century automotive engineering and luxury. This limousine is not just any classic car; it is one of only 42 six-door configurations ever made out of 428 long-wheelbase 600 Pullman limousines, with this specific model being one of just 11 equipped with both a factory sunroof and air conditioning.
Introduced at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz 600 was a marvel of its time, featuring an advanced hydraulic system that operated nearly every function of the vehicle, including a self-leveling air suspension. Its design and technological innovations made it the vehicle of choice for world leaders, celebrities, and dignitaries, cementing its place in automotive history.
This particular limousine has a distinguished history, having been initially used by Mercedes-Benz to transport VIP guests and engineers before being sold to Klaus Kienle, a key figure in the production of the 600 series. Now, it finds a new home at the DFW Car & Toy Museum, where it has been carefully preserved and maintained, with records of service from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center USA. While it has been updated with modern entertainment features, the limousine retains its original mid-century charm.
The museum, which is relocating to 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, is set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2025. It offers free admission and boasts an impressive collection of over 150 collector cars and 3,000 antique automotive toys, making it a must-visit for car enthusiasts and historians alike.
