Hodo Foods, a leader in high-quality tofu products, is making a significant move to broaden its retail presence by introducing its plant-based protein offerings at three major grocery chains: Meijer, Harris Teeter, and Giant Martin's. This expansion is a direct response to the increasing consumer demand for nutritious, minimally processed protein alternatives. According to Hodo Founder Minh Tsai, the tofu category has seen an 8% sales growth between 2021 and 2023, with younger generations increasingly adopting tofu as a dietary staple.
The company's diverse product line now includes over 20 retail SKUs, featuring entrees, dips, flavored tofu blocks, and innovative items such as the Saucy Tofu Kits. Each retailer will offer a tailored selection of Hodo's products. For instance, Meijer will stock Extra Firm Tofu, Organic Miso Tofu, Organic Indian Spiced Tofu, and Thai Curry Nuggets. Giant Martin's will carry Organic Miso Tofu, Thai Curry Nuggets, and Vegan All-Day Egg Scramble, while Harris Teeter's lineup includes Extra Firm Tofu, Organic Miso Tofu, Organic Indian Spiced Tofu, Thai Curry Nuggets, and Chermoula Moroccan Cubes.
Hodo's products are made from organic, non-GMO soybeans, providing a protein-rich, nutrient-dense alternative that offers a complete plant protein with all nine essential amino acids. The retail prices for these products range from $4.99 to $7.99, making them an accessible option for a wide range of consumers.
This retail expansion builds on Hodo's existing presence in regional and national retailers such as Whole Foods, Albertsons Safeway, HEB, and Wegmans. Additionally, the company has forged partnerships in the foodservice sector, supplying ingredients to prominent establishments like Chipotle, Sweetgreen, and various corporate cafeterias. This strategic move underscores the broader shift towards plant-based protein consumption, as consumers increasingly look for convenient, health-conscious meal options that do not sacrifice taste or nutritional value.
