The United Arab Emirates' tourism sector has demonstrated strong growth in the first half of 2024, with hotel establishment revenues surpassing AED 24.6 billion, a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is part of a broader trend that saw the number of hotel guests across the UAE's seven emirates reach approximately 15.3 million, reflecting a substantial 10.5% growth. H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, highlighted these results as evidence of the effectiveness of the country's tourism strategies and its competitive advantage in the global market.
The UAE's hotel sector has not only seen an increase in revenues but also in capacity, achieving a remarkable 79.5% hotel occupancy rate in the first half of 2024. This places the UAE among the highest globally and represents a 3.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Such growth is in line with the nation's We the UAE 2031 vision, which aims to solidify the UAE's position as one of the world's premier destinations.
Additionally, the travel and aviation sector has seen significant progress, with UAE airports recording an increase in passenger numbers during the first half of 2024. Total passenger traffic grew by 14.2% to reach over 71.75 million, reflecting international confidence in the quality and efficiency of travel services in the UAE. The country's investment in aviation infrastructure development projects has increased its airports' capacity to accommodate more than 160 million passengers, further establishing the UAE as a leading regional and global travel hub.
The expansion of the hotel sector is also noteworthy, with the total number of hotel rooms in the UAE reaching 213,741 by the end of the first half of 2024, a 3% growth compared to the same period in 2023. The total number of hotel nights in the seven emirates increased to over 53 million nights, up 10% from the previous year. These positive trends not only contribute to the nation's GDP but also create job opportunities and stimulate various related industries, reinforcing the UAE's position on the global tourism stage.
