Waterloo Records, a pivotal figure in Austin's music scene, has announced the opening of Waterloo Sound, a modern post-production studio aimed at meeting the dynamic needs of today's creators. Situated within the renowned Waterloo Records at 1105 N. Lamar Blvd, Waterloo Sound is scheduled to commence operations on August 30, 2025, providing a range of services that merge conventional and innovative production methods.
The studio features the Nu•Studio System, a modular platform created by Grammy Award-winning engineer Chad Franscoviak, bringing Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision technologies to Austin's creative sector. This initiative marks the first commercial application of the Nu•Studio System, highlighting the studio's dedication to pioneering advancements in production technology.
Waterloo Sound sets itself apart by incorporating an on-site vinyl lacquer cutting lathe, positioning it among the select studios in the U.S. capable of offering both spatial audio post-production and analog vinyl production in a single location. Emily Gianopoulos, Partner at Waterloo Sound, shared the studio's vision to serve as a creative nexus for artists, engineers, and content creators. The studio will provide services such as Dolby Atmos music mixing and mastering, video post-production, and vinyl lacquer cutting, addressing a broad spectrum of creative needs.
The introduction of Waterloo Sound not only expands Waterloo Records' portfolio but also contributes to Austin's cultural vibrancy. With initiatives like public programming, studio tours, and a café-style lounge, Waterloo Sound aims to foster a lively community space for music enthusiasts and creators. This expansion underscores Waterloo Records' ongoing support for independent culture and innovation in the music industry, offering artists and creators in Austin and beyond new avenues for creative expression.
