Hong Kong's ALMAC Conference to Address Global Supply Chain Challenges and Emerging Market Opportunities

The 15th Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) will convene on November 17-18 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together industry leaders to address evolving global trade dynamics. Co-organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the conference aligns with national development priorities outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan and local policies aimed at strengthening Hong Kong's position as an international shipping and aviation hub.

Under the theme "Collaboration and Growth in the New Trade Landscape," ALMAC will feature over 80 speakers and expects to attract 2,300 participants from more than 40 countries. The conference comes at a critical juncture for global supply chains, with companies facing challenges from geopolitical tensions, tariff changes, extreme weather events, and ongoing disruptions while simultaneously addressing demands for sustainability and digital transformation.

Patrick Lau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized Hong Kong's strategic role, noting that "Hong Kong's status as an international shipping centre is supported by recommendations in the 15th Five-Year Plan." The conference will particularly focus on high-potential markets, with senior industry representatives from the Middle East and Central Asia attending in person to reinforce Hong Kong's position as a premier global business hub.

Three major industry trends will dominate discussions: supply chain diversification and opportunities in emerging markets, sustainability and green energy, and innovation and technology. Distinguished speakers include Gregory Javor, Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain Operations at Mattel, Inc; Mohit Wadhawan, Head of Worldwide Core Print Supply Planning at HP Inc; and Samuel Lee, General Manager of DHL Express Central Asia Hub.

New thematic sessions will spotlight the Middle East and Central Asia markets, regions rapidly emerging as significant hubs for global trade and logistics. The "Tapping the Middle East: Logistics, Innovation & Trade Potentials" session will feature speakers including Stanislas Brun, Chief Cargo Officer of Etihad Airways, and Christopher Cahill, Managing Director of the Middle East and India Sub-continent at GEODIS. Similarly, the "Unlocking Central Asia: The Next Trade and Logistics Frontier" session will analyze opportunities in reshaping Eurasia's trade dynamics.

Sustainability takes center stage with a special "Green Energy Forum: Fuels, Freight, and the Road to Net Zero" session aligning with Hong Kong's policy goal of becoming a green maritime fuel bunkering center. Speakers including Essam Al Sheibany, Vice President of Sustainability at Asyad Group, and Dr Tryggvi Thor Herbertsson, Head of Hydrogen Strategy and Partnership at Qair Group, will explore pathways to a more sustainable low-carbon future.

Technological innovation will be highlighted through sessions on the low-altitude economy, including "The Engine of Low-altitude Economy: How Cargo Drones are Revolutionising the Future of Air Logistics." The debut Low-Altitude Economy Zone will showcase cutting-edge technologies from companies participating in Hong Kong's regulatory sandbox pilot projects, featuring drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, and urban air mobility applications.

The conference will host approximately 20 thematic forums and workshops covering air freight, shipping, supply chain management, and logistics. Representatives from leading international brands including Procter & Gamble, HP, and Reckitt will share strategies for integrating innovation across technology, talent, and processes to drive sustainable transformation.

Over 90 exhibitors will participate in dedicated zones for Aviation, Low-altitude Economy, Logtech Salon, Supply Chain Management and Logistics Services, and Maritime and Port Services. The Logtech Salon will showcase AI, big data, and cloud technologies applicable to the industry. First-time exhibitors include SF Express, Greater Bay Airlines, YunExpress, ZIM, and PayCargo. Many mainland Chinese exhibitors are also participating for the first time, including the Chengdu International Railway Port and Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone Authority.

Business matching sessions, which successfully organized over 330 meetings last year, will continue in 2025, bringing together shippers and service providers to create business opportunities. The conference will also host the Hong Kong's NextGen Logistician Awards Presentation Ceremony 2025, recognizing young talents in the logistics industry who have shown remarkable potential in innovative, high-end, smart, and green logistics.
