Verizon Eliminates Activation and Upgrade Fees, Launches Loyalty Program and Simplified Plans

Verizon (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) today announced a major overhaul of its consumer offerings, eliminating activation and upgrade fees for postpaid customers who opt into a new loyalty program, and introducing simplified plans designed to reduce complexity. The moves are part of a multi-year transformation aimed at putting customers first, according to CEO Dan Schulman.

“We’re fundamentally reshaping Verizon inside and out to put the customer at the center of everything we do,” Schulman said in a statement. “For too long, this industry has burdened people with complex plans, forced upgrades they don’t need, and so-called ‘rewards’ with tons of caveats.”

Effective immediately, all postpaid customers on any phone or connected device plan can opt into the Verizon Loyalty program through the My Verizon app, which waives activation and upgrade fees—saving up to $40 per device. The program also introduces “Verizon Dollars,” a first-of-its-kind reward that gives customers 3% back monthly on their bills, redeemable for devices, accessories, or up to 5x the value at partners like Sephora, Hilton, Marriott, and Starbucks, starting in July.

Additionally, Verizon launched “Verizon Shine,” a weekly sweepstakes offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, VIP access to Outside Lands festival, and a food tour with chef Andrew Zimmern. Customers can also win daily prizes including free coffee from Starbucks, Dunkin’ treats, and gift cards to Ulta and Amazon.

The company also introduced two new plans: “Verizon Simplicity” and “Verizon One.” Simplicity, priced at $45 per line with a promotional $30 rate for switchers, includes access to Verizon’s best 5G network with 5G Ultra Wideband, 10GB of premium mobile hotspot, roaming in Canada and Mexico, and satellite texting. Customers can add home internet for $35 monthly and choose optional bundles like the “For Movie and Show Lovers bundle” with Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, and HBO Max, or a Travel bundle with Global Calling Plus and Travel Pass Days.

Verizon One combines mobile and home services into a single plan for $70 per month with taxes and fees included, targeting new customers. The plan is managed through the My Verizon app and includes access to Verizon’s 5G and fiber networks.

Alfonso Villanueva, Interim CEO of Verizon Consumer Group, emphasized the company’s focus on simplicity and value. “With today’s news, we’re doubling down on what customers actually want: simpler experiences, less friction and more rewards for being a customer,” he said.

Verizon anticipates these changes will be accretive to revenue and EBITDA growth and drive continued churn reduction, with no change to 2026 financial guidance. The announcement builds on the existing myPlan offering, which customers can continue to use alongside the new loyalty program.
