UGI Utilities is embarking on a significant infrastructure upgrade project in Harrisburg, focusing on enhancing the natural gas infrastructure near the state capitol. This initiative involves the replacement of main and service lines across eight key street segments: North 10th Street, Walnut Street, North Court Street, North 2nd Street, North 3rd Street, Pine Street, South Street, and Oliver Alley. The construction is set to proceed daily, including weekends, from 7 am to 5 pm, with an expected completion by the end of June.
The project is anticipated to bring about considerable disruptions, including road closures, detours, and traffic delays, alongside parking restrictions on the affected streets. Property owners in the vicinity may face temporary interruptions in natural gas service, requiring UGI technicians to conduct equipment inspections and possibly relight gas appliances. The timeline for the project's completion may vary, influenced by weather conditions and the progress of on-site work. Subsequent to the underground infrastructure enhancements, UGI Utilities plans to undertake paving and restoration efforts to conclude the project.
This infrastructure upgrade is a component of UGI Utilities' broader commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of utility services for its customer base, which exceeds 760,000 individuals. The initiative highlights the critical role of proactive infrastructure maintenance in safeguarding community utility reliability. For more information on the project, visit https://www.ugi.com.
