UGI Utilities is embarking on a comprehensive gas main replacement project in Easton, starting Monday, May 19, targeting key streets to improve the safety and reliability of the natural gas infrastructure. The project will focus on Spring Garden Street between North Third Street and Larry Holmes Drive, North Second Street between Bushkill Street and Spring Garden Street, and North Green Street between Spring Garden Street and Bushkill Street. Construction is scheduled from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with completion anticipated by the end of June, subject to weather and working conditions.
Residents and commuters should prepare for potential disruptions, including road closures, detours, and traffic delays, as well as parking restrictions on affected streets. Temporary interruptions to natural gas service are expected, necessitating UGI personnel to access properties for equipment inspection and relighting. This initiative is part of UGI's ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade utility infrastructure to ensure safety and reliability for the community.
Beyond infrastructure improvements, the project offers an opportunity for homes and businesses along the project route to consider converting to natural gas service. This could lead to improved energy efficiency and expanded utility options for Easton residents. Following the underground work, additional paving and restoration efforts will be scheduled to restore the affected areas.
