Education technology company Ojje has introduced an adaptive literacy system aimed at revolutionizing reading instruction for K-12 students. This platform offers a personalized, scalable solution to the widespread challenge of reading proficiency, as highlighted by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), which reports that 66% of 4th graders and 69% of 8th graders lack reading proficiency. The system's launch comes at a time when classrooms often span 9-11.6 grade levels in reading abilities, underscoring the urgent need for adaptive learning tools.
The platform features a growing library of short-form stories available in 15 reading levels in both English and Spanish, complete with vivid illustrations, read-aloud support, and synchronized word highlighting. These features are grounded in the Science of Reading methodology and are designed to support early literacy development through decodable texts aligned with the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI). The stories are crafted to be completed in 5-15 minutes, encouraging daily reading routines that enhance student stamina and comprehension.
Among the platform's standout features is the proprietary Story Maker, which allows educators to quickly create curriculum-based content across all 15 reading levels in English and Spanish. This tool enables the addition of comprehension questions and the production of leveled audiobooks in about 15 minutes, offering a significant time-saving advantage for teachers.
Ojje's platform also caters to English Language Learners, who make up 10.4% of public school students, by providing bilingual content that supports diverse linguistic needs. This initiative reflects the company's commitment to fostering inclusive and adaptive learning environments. Adrian Chernoff, CEO of Ojje, brings a wealth of experience from innovations at NASA and Disney to the platform's mission of removing educational barriers and empowering teachers to support every student's reading journey.
This adaptive literacy system by Ojje marks a pivotal advancement in personalized, technology-driven education, offering a scalable solution to one of the most pressing challenges in literacy education today.
