The Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) has announced the winners of the DFA Awards 2024, a prestigious recognition of design excellence across Asia. This year's awards are notable for the introduction of the DFA Designer of the Year category, highlighting the awards' dedication to promoting Asian design talent internationally. Established in 2003 with the support of the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), the DFA Awards acknowledge individuals and projects that have made significant contributions to the design field, particularly in Asia.
Among the distinguished recipients, Kengo Kuma was awarded the DFA Lifetime Achievement Award for his innovative architecture that harmonizes with nature. Kikuo Ibe, known as the 'Father of G-SHOCK,' received the DFA Design Leadership Award for his revolutionary shock-resistant watches. Tino Kwan was honored with the DFA World's Outstanding Chinese Designer award for his impactful lighting designs over a 45-year career. Eisuke Tachikawa, the first to receive the DFA Designer of the Year award, was recognized for his 'Evolutional Creativity' approach to solving global social issues through design.
The DFA Design for Asia Awards 2024 celebrated 215 designs across six categories, showcasing the breadth of creativity and innovation in Asian design. Prof. Eric Yim, Chairman of HKDC, highlighted the transformative power of design in addressing societal challenges.
