Hong Kong International Optical Fair Showcases Industry Shift Toward Smart Technology and Sustainability

The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, featuring more than 660 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association. Jenny Koo, Acting Executive Director of HKTDC, emphasized Hong Kong's position as a leading exporter of optical products and the fair's role in connecting global industry professionals, with buyers attending from emerging markets including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Egypt, UAE, Brazil, and Uruguay alongside traditional markets like Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Under the theme "Bright Eyes - New Horizons," the fair showcases innovative products integrating scientific research, design excellence, and sustainability concepts across ten group pavilions including representations from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and a new ASEAN pavilion. The signature "Brand Name Gallery" features over 200 globally renowned brands including MINIMA from France, STEPPER from Germany, and United Colors of Benetton from Italy, while the "Visionaries of Style" section highlights creative designs pushing industry boundaries.

Three special product labels introduced last year continue to highlight key industry trends: "Smart Ageing Products," "Green Solutions Suppliers," and "Smart Eyewear," helping buyers efficiently source products addressing the silver economy, sustainability, and smart technology. Chinese Mainland brand MUEDO presents its U10 Dual-Mode Smart Reading Glasses with auto-focusing lenses and hi-fi stereo sound quality, while Japanese exhibitor Sasamata showcases ultra-lightweight eyewear with a flip-up mechanism designed for frequent reading glass users, demonstrating the industry's response to aging populations.

Sustainability initiatives include the Green Booth Design Competition recognizing exhibitors for eco-friendly booth concepts, with Gold Award winner Wenzhou Ouhai Glasses Co Ltd, Silver winner Micron Eyewear Manufactory Company Limited, and Bronze winner Jiangsu Xuzhi Optical Glasses Co., Ltd. all centering their designs around eco-friendly materials and waste reduction. Hong Kong-based JLX STUDIO MADE focuses on 3D-printed eyewear using eco-friendly printing to reduce production waste, reflecting growing environmental consciousness across the optical supply chain.

Smart technology innovations include Chinese Mainland brand LAWAKEN's all-in-one AR glasses, LAWK ONE, equipped with fitness tracking, AR navigation, and 4K ultra HD recording capabilities. Hong Kong exhibitor Arts Optical Company Limited introduces OPTI AI, utilizing VR and AI to overcome limitations of traditional progressive lens design and create bespoke lenses for individuals, representing significant advancements in personalized optical solutions. The fair continues through November 7, adopting the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model that integrates online and offline elements, allowing exhibitors and buyers to connect through the Click2Match online smart business-matching platform until November 14.
