The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will host its flagship promotional campaign, Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK), in Kuala Lumpur on August 11, 2026, at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. The full-day symposium aims to connect Malaysian businesses with Hong Kong business leaders, investors, and professional services experts to explore investment opportunities and forge cross-border partnerships.
Targeting Malaysian companies with regional and global ambitions, the event comes as Malaysia advances its New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which focuses on accelerating industrial transformation, advancing sustainability, and strengthening connectivity with global value chains. TBTHK will illustrate how Hong Kong can support these priorities by providing access to established networks, professional services, and market opportunities across ASEAN, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and the wider China market.
Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasized the longstanding economic relationship between Malaysia and Hong Kong. “Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to realise their ambitions beyond the domestic market,” he said at a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur. Through HKTDC’s networks, the council aims to attract more Malaysian businesses to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages and connect them with trusted partners, investors, and market insights.
The symposium will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong’s role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions. Notable guests include Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia, who will be guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
In addition to the symposium, about 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products and solutions in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon, offering collaboration opportunities. One-on-one business consultations and on-site business matching will facilitate deals between Malaysian and Hong Kong companies. A delegation of around 100 government officials, business leaders, and innovators from sectors including finance, professional services, innovation and technology, and environmental services will explore business opportunities through discussions and networking events.
Hong Kong is home to nearly 10,000 Chinese Mainland and overseas companies with regional operations and is Asia’s leading international financial and business centre. For Malaysian companies, Hong Kong provides access to an ecosystem of global businesses, investors, and financial institutions that support market entry and international expansion.
Malaysia and Hong Kong have deep economic ties. In 2025, Malaysia was Hong Kong’s third-largest trading partner among ASEAN member states. Hong Kong was Malaysia’s second-largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion and net FDI flow of US$1.6 billion in the same year.
The TBTHK campaign aims to deepen Malaysia-Hong Kong business collaboration and provide Malaysian companies with the connections and market access needed to pursue regional and global opportunities. For more information or to register for the symposium, visit the official registration page.
