UGI Utilities is embarking on a major infrastructure upgrade in Sunbury, focusing on gas main replacements and service enhancements. The project, starting May 19, will cover several key streets and is expected to last until the end of June. Areas affected include South 2nd Street from the Veterans Memorial Bridge exit to South Front Street, South Front Street, Slough Street, and the parking lots of Weis Market's Corporate Headquarters. Construction activities are scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm, potentially disrupting local traffic, parking, and causing temporary natural gas service interruptions.
Residents and business owners in the vicinity should prepare for road closures, detours, and traffic delays during construction hours. Parking will be restricted on the streets under construction, and UGI personnel will require access to properties to inspect and relight equipment. This project not only aims to upgrade the utility infrastructure but also presents an opportunity for properties along the route to switch to natural gas service, offering a long-term benefit to the community.
The completion of the underground work will be followed by final paving and restoration, with the timeline subject to weather and operational conditions. UGI Utilities, serving more than 760,000 customers, underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of its utility infrastructure through such strategic upgrades.
