Alsco Uniforms has been recognized as the 2025 Clean Air Award recipient by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, a testament to its outstanding efforts in minimizing air emissions and boosting energy efficiency at its Spokane location. April Westby, the executive director of Spokane Clean Air, commended the company for its dedication to lowering energy usage. This accolade highlights several pivotal projects undertaken by Alsco Uniforms, such as the modernization of industrial dryers to cut down on natural gas use, the substitution of old heating and cooling systems with more energy-efficient alternatives, and the refinement of delivery routes to enhance fuel efficiency.
Joey Kink, the general manager at the Spokane Alsco Uniforms facility, shed light on the company's extensive environmental initiatives. Alsco Uniforms not only focuses on energy conservation but also prioritizes the reduction of disposable waste through the provision of reusable products and the selection of vendors who adhere to sustainable practices. For instance, the company opts for American-made table linens that boast longer life spans and collaborates with a mat vendor that recycles more than 1.25 million pounds of rubber each year.
With a history in Spokane dating back to 1955 and origins tracing to 1889, Alsco Uniforms now boasts over 200 locations globally. Its commitment to environmental preservation goes beyond energy efficiency, encompassing partnerships with laundry chemical suppliers to formulate environmentally friendly products. The Spokane Clean Air Agency will present the award during a ceremony scheduled for February 12, an event that aims to spotlight the agency's goal of improving air quality and motivating businesses to embrace sustainable operations. This award serves as a reminder of the critical role corporate environmental responsibility plays in diminishing carbon footprints and fostering sustainable business practices.
