The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) has revealed an ambitious plan to nearly double its tournament calendar in 2025, marking a pivotal moment for the sport's growth. With nearly 50 world-class competitions scheduled, including 14 nationally televised APP Tour events, the expansion aims to cater to the surging popularity of pickleball among players of all ages and skill levels.
Ken Herrmann, Founder of the APP, highlighted the organization's readiness for this growth, emphasizing the APP's role in setting the global standard for pickleball. The 2025 calendar will feature four APP Tour Majors and eight USA Pickleball "Golden Ticket" tournaments, alongside over 20 new competitions across the U.S., designed to meet the increasing demand for competitive play.
Enhanced media coverage is a cornerstone of the APP's 2025 strategy, with plans to broadcast over 55 hours of pickleball action on national television. This initiative, as noted by Tom Webb, APP Chief Marketing Officer, is crucial for elevating the sport's profile and providing professional players with the recognition they deserve.
Player development is another focus area, with the introduction of the APP Next Gen schedule and the launch of the APP Academy in Fort Lauderdale. These programs aim to nurture young talent through competitive opportunities and specialized training, further solidifying pickleball's future.
The APP's expansion also includes international events, underscoring its commitment to driving pickleball's global popularity. With these comprehensive efforts, the APP is not only responding to the current demand but also paving the way for the sport's sustained growth and mainstream acceptance.
